Examinations & Assessments

How would the final exam be conducted this semester?    

In response to the ongoing outbreaks of Covid-19, all courses will be offered remotely until the end of the spring semester (June 26, 2021). Alternative assessments such as online exams, online presentation, reports or assignments (uploaded as digital files) should be implemented to refrain the students from entering the school.
2 What may the instructor do if the assessments differ from those announced in the syllabus? Please inform the students through proper approaches (e.g., updated syllabus, social media platforms, or iStudy) to avoid information gap that might lead to grading disputes.
3 Would on-site practical courses be offered this semester? Whenever the CECC reduces the Epidemic Alert to Level 2 (or lower), instructors might arrange on-site make-up practical courses by July 3, 2021 based on students’ needs under the premise of adopting preventive measures. 
Students' intentions should also be taken into consideration. That is, whether students attend on-site make-up practical courses shall not impact their credit scores.

Would the grade delivery deadline be extended this semester?  

  1. For courses taken by graduating students or students who postpone their graduation, instructors should deliver the semester grades by July 5, 2021 (as announced in the university’s Academic Calendar) to help them deal with graduation, pursue further studies or seek jobs.
  2. For the rest of the courses, the grade delivery deadline may be extended to July 19, 2021. If instructors are unable to meet the grade delivery deadline for inevitable reasons, please ensure effective communication with the students and deliver the semester grades by July 31, 2021. 
5 When would the students start to check their class ranking this semester?     It may be announced after August 15, 2021. (The schedule might be subject to change due to delayed grade delivery.)
6 When would the transcript be sent this semester (for undergraduate programs)?  It would start to be sent from August 2, 2021.
7 When may the graduating students apply for the transcript this semester?   Graduating students may start to apply for the transcripts after the Degree Certificate being sent or received.

 

For Graduate Students- Thesis/ Dissertation Defense

What should the graduate student do if more than five people would attend the indoor thesis/dissertation defense simultaneously? Or what if the Committee Members are unable to attend the oral defense in person?   

Graduate students who have applied for thesis/dissertation defense this semester may do as follows to apply for an online oral defense before the examination date:
  1. Please submit the application form “For Committee: Application for Oral Defense (Video Conferencing)” for advisor, department office, and college for verification. The approved document should also be sent to Office of Academic Affairs for future reference.(Download: https://oaa.ntut.edu.tw/var/file/8/1008/img/3217/607219404.docx)”.
  2. If the applicant doesn’t attend the meeting in person, the exam process has to be fully recorded, and the recordings should be preserved by the Department Office for 10 years. If there is a dispute or grievance, the student, advisor, and Department Office should provide supporting evidence for verification.

May the thesis/dissertation defense be conducted through video-conferencing?   

Graduate students who have applied for thesis/dissertation defense 
this semester may do as follows to apply for an online oral defense before the examination date:

  1. Please submit the application form “For Candidate: Application for Oral Defense (Video Conferencing)” for advisor, department office, college, and relevant academic administration unit (OAA or OCE) for verification. (Download: https://oaa.ntut.edu.tw/var/file/8/1008/img/3217/624039609.docx)”.
  2. If the applicant doesn’t attend the meeting in person, the exam process must be fully recorded, and the recordings should be preserved by the Department Office for 10 years. If there is a dispute or grievance, the student, advisor, and Department Office should provide supporting evidence for verification.

What can the graduate student react if the advisor asks him/her to arrive at school? 

1. The advisor should ensure effective communication to fully understand students’ intentions and reach consensus between each other. For students who have to enter the University for lab works or research needs, please abide by “Guidelines in the lab/office” (please refer to Taipei Tech COVID-19 Preventive Measures for more details) with regulations such as implementation of shifts, real-name registration, requirement for face-masks, and body temperature measurement.

2. Whenever a grievance is submitted by the student, Office of Academic Affairs would conduct interviews with the advisor or chairperson of the department office for further investigation.

Would the deadline for conducting thesis/ dissertation defense be extended?

Generally, the due date is by July 31, 2021. However, for students who have applied for oral defense within the regulated date, the completion of graduation procedures may be extended to October 31, 2021. Please be reminded to conduct the oral defense on time and leave enough time for thesis/dissertation submission.
5 How would the Evaluation Form for Degree Examination and Thesis Verification Form being conducted through video conferencing?    

1. For committee member who doesn’t attend the thesis/ dissertation defense in person, the Evaluation Form for Degree Examination might be commented, signed, scanned, and mailed to the Department Office for department stamp as verification. As the procedures completed, the scanned file might be viewed as the original copy.

2. The Thesis Verification Form should be signed, scanned, and mailed by each committee members respectively through digital files. 

6 Would the deadline for withdrawing thesis/dissertation defense be extended?  The deadline has been extended to August 31, 2021.

When would be the deadline for the graduate students to submit their theses/ dissertations this semester?  

For notice on thesis/dissertation, please refer to the announcement on the website of Library.
8 Would the date for the graduate students to complete the graduation procedures be extended this semester? 
 
Generally, the graduation procedures should be completed by August 26, 2021 (no later than August 31, 2021).
According to the policy of the Ministry of Education, the deadline to complete the graduation procedures may be extended to October 31, 2021 for students who have special needs and have already applied for thesis/ dissertation defense. 
However, if the students are unable to complete the graduation process by October 31, 2021, they would be charged for the tuition fees for the fall semester of the Academic Year 2021 for delayed graduation.

 

Extending the Application Deadline for the Joint Undergraduate and
Graduate Program

  1. To apply for reissuing of student ID card:Please follow the steps of reporting a card loss through Taipei Tech Portal, print the Application Form, and bring it to the Office of Academic Affairs along with the receipt of application fee.

What is the participant limit for Google Meet and Microsoft Teams?   

  1. Google Meet: limited to 100 participants.
  2. Microsoft Teams: limited to 250 participants (recommended for large classes).

What may the user do if the wireless network reaches its maximum limit because of conducting remote instruction at school?   

  1. The Computer & Network Center has optimized the wireless network speed from 10G to 20G every day.
  2. If the network speed reaches its limit, please request additional quota in advance to ensure the quality of the remote instruction.
  3. If the network quota has reached its daily limit, please wait until 6 am the next day for the reset.

When would the online graduation procedures system be opened this semester?

The system would be opened from June 28, 2021 for students who are eligible to graduate.

How to apply for online graduation procedures this semester?

Please do as follows:
Log in to the Taipei Tech Portal  Applications System of Academic Affairs Graduation Procedures SystemFill out the personal information to complete the application process

After the application process, the student may receive a confirmation email automatically sent by the system, informing them about further details. As receiving “Notice of Approval for Graduation Procedures”, the whole evaluation process shall be completed.

3 How to receive the Degree Certificate through postal service this semester? (for undergraduate programs) Please log in to the website of Office of Academic Affairs and fill in the postal address for application during June 21, 2021 to July 4, 2021.
4 When would the Degree Certificate being sent by post this semester? (for undergraduate programs)  It would start to be sent from July 14, 2021.

  How do graduate students receive their Degree Certificate this semester? 

Graduate students should make an online appointment before arriving at school and receiving the Degree Certificate in person.

How do graduate students receive their Degree Certificate in person this semester?  

  1. Graduate students should log in to the website of Office of Academic Affairs and make an online appointment before arriving at school and receiving the Degree Certificate in person.
  2. The date for issuing Degree Certificate is started from July 20, 2021 to the deadline for completion of graduation procedures. The distribution process may be split into different sessions with limited quotas every day.
  3. For students who are receiving a bachelor’s degree, the online appointment system may be opened from July 10, 2021. Please log in to the website of Office of Academic Affairs and make an online appointment before arriving at school and receiving the Degree Certificate in person.
7 What may the students do if they did not receive the Degree Certificate according to the reserved time?  Please make an online appointment again.

  1. For undergraduate programs: September 6, 2021.
  2. For graduate programs: August 26, 2021 (no later than August 31, 2021).

How do the graduating students apply for English Degree Certificate?

  1. Students should arrive at school, pay the application fee, fill out the application form, and hand it to the Office of Academic Affairs by July 5, 2021. The English Degree Certificate might be sent by post along with the Chinese Degree Certificate for those who apply for receiving the certificates through postal service.
  2. For students who apply for the English Degree Certificate after July 5, 2021, they should arrive at school, pay the application fee, fill out the application form, hand it to the Office of Academic Affairs, and make an online appointment before arriving at school and receiving the English Degree Certificate in person after three business days (the date for issuing English Degree Certificate is started from July 20, 2021).

How do the students apply for suspension this semester if they are unable to enter the school?     

  1. Please complete the application process by the end of the 17th week according to the Academic Calendar. 
  2. Students may apply for suspension through postal service or email. The application date would be determined by the postmark date or the time the email was sent.
  3. Required documents:
    (1) Application Form for Day School Suspension (Drop-out), Leave, and Refund
    (2) Counseling Record between Temporarily-Leaving / Dropout
    (3) Approval emails or scanned files issued by Department Office, Library, Advisor (for graduate students), Office of International Affairs (for foreign students).
    (4) Parental consent form (for undergraduate students)
    (5) Please send the student ID card to school by post to extend the expiration date, and retrieve it after resumption or whenever the CECC reduces the Epidemic Alert to Level 2 (or lower).
  4. For those who have lost their student ID cards, please report a card loss through Taipei Tech Portal, print the Application Form, and attach it along with other documents when apply for suspension.
2 How would the courses of 2021 summer session (Academic year 2020/2021) be conducted?
  1. Due to the ongoing outbreaks of Covid-19, all courses of 2021 summer session will be offered remotely. Instructors are suggested to use synchronous teaching approach, and abide by the following regulations:
    Lessons should be given online according to the scheduled time, and the lecturers shall do online roll calls to take attendance (time conflicts would be unacceptable for courses of summer session). Also, students should refrain from entering school if not necessary.
  2. The instructor should provide syllabus and related resources for the online synchronous software used for each course.If the instructor would like to maintain some evaluation flexibility in case the CECC reduces the Epidemic Alert Level, please explain it to the students in advance. The syllabus would be released on the website of the 2021 summer session at the Office of Academic Affairs.
